When Emma's family home was damaged by a burst pipe in January, they lost almost everything. Emma arrived at school the next day in borrowed clothes two sizes too big, without her backpack, books, or winter coat.
Her principal immediately contacted Teachers for Kids Foundation. By the end of that same day, Emma had a new winter coat, boots, a full set of school supplies, and a backpack with her name on it.
But TFKF didn't stop there. They connected the family with emergency housing assistance and covered Emma's upcoming school trip deposit so she wouldn't miss the spring field trip to the Ontario Science Centre.
"That backpack with my name on it," Emma told her teacher weeks later, "it was the first thing that felt like mine again."
